Enrolling in Year 5

The Middle School (Years 5–9) is a crucial stage in a student’s educational journey, bridging the transition from primary to secondary schooling. The Middle School is a school of transition and change and operates differently throughout. In Year 5 and Year 6, the traditional primary school classroom dominates. However, Year 5 and Year 6 students are increasingly introduced to the secondary years by visiting specialist rooms, participating in Year 5 to Year 12 assemblies and other integration opportunities. Year 7 and Year 8 is the time to focus on specific subjects and embed secondary school research and study patterns. Year 9, the final year of Middle School, is focused on preparing students to tackle the depth and breadth of the Senior School curriculum.

Our Middle School program fosters academic growth, resilience, and independence, preparing students for the challenges of secondary education. With a broad and engaging curriculum, students have the opportunity to explore specialised subjects, develop critical thinking skills, and take on leadership roles within the school community. Through a supportive and dynamic learning environment, Middle School equips students with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed for future success.

Enrichment and Extension

The GATEway Programme for Year 5 and Year 6 provides a unique learning opportunity for students of the Middle School. In these classes the curriculum is compacted, based upon the pretesting in each unit of work, providing opportunity for the students to work with their teacher to explore related issues at greater depth. Students will be selected to enter these classes based on their application and academic testing conducted at the School.
